SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Improv Taster Session (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Take a break and join us for a fun-filled improv acting session! All are welcome\, no experience required.\n\n\nIn this taster session\, we welcome LGBTQ+ folks to come together online to learn the foundations of improv\, practise some scenes\, and have a proper silly time. \n \nWhat is improv?Improv\, or improvisational theatre\, is a style of acting where you perform scenes without a script. Famous examples of improv include Whose Line Is It Anyway?\, Game Changer\, and tabletop roleplaying games like Critical Role and Dimension 20. Improv is all about grounding yourself in the moment\, seizing opportunities\, and trusting your instincts and scene partners. \nNo experience required—everyone is welcome\, whether it’s your first time trying improv or your hundredth. At the start of each session\, we’ll go over the golden rules of improv so everyone feels confident and ready. Then\, we’ll explore a foundational skill—such as creating characters or building a story—and practise through scenes. After a short break\, we’ll end with an “improv jam” where we play a variety of games. \nImprov… but online?!Yes!! \n While improv is often done in person\, it can be just as fun and creative online—just with a slightly different flavour. Online improv increases accessibility and offers a low-pressure environment from the comfort of your own home. \nFor online improv\, you’ll need access to your phone / laptop\, a camera\, microphone\, and a reliable internet connection. We recommend finding a quiet\, comfy space for the session\, and having a drink nearby (there’ll be time to make a cuppa during the break!). \nIf you have any questions or accessibility requirements\, please get in touch at lgbtqcc@gmail.com \nWe do our best improv—and have the most fun—when everyone feels safe and supported. If there are any topics or themes you’d prefer to avoid in scenes\, please let us know in advance. We’ll also recap a list of themes to avoid at the start of each session to help keep things safe and enjoyable for all. \n \nMore about our facilitator: \n Katherine Holmes (they/them) is a Quantum Physicist\, triple A-activist (asexual\, aromantic and agender) and Improviser! Katherine started their improv journey in 2019 and has since practised improv with several in-person and online networks. During their PhD\, Katherine collaborated with well-established improv teacher Justine Jones to deliver improv sessions for university students\, helping them build confidence and prepare for public speaking. Ultimately\, their love for improv stems from the community it fosters and the laughs shared along the way! \nhttps://katherineholmespublic.wordpress.com \nFAQ’s: \nCan I come to this session if I’ve not been before? \nYes! Feel free to let the session facilitator know if you haven’t come along to one of our sessions in the past and they’ll be sure to make you feel welcome in the group! \n \nCan I come to sessions if I’m not a member of the LGBT Community? \nLLCC is proud to offer our sessions for free. This is because we receive funding to host sessions and events specifically for people who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ Community. Allies of the LGBTQ+ Community are encouraged to promote our sessions to LGBTQ+ friends\, service users and colleagues. \n \nLeeds LGBTQ+ Community Consortium are resolute in our commitment to maintaining a zero tolerance policy against any and all forms of discrimination\, including but not limited to race\, gender\, ethnicity\, religion\, age and sexual orientation. If this policy is abused by anyone taking part in sessions\, you will be removed from the session and may not be allowed to come to future events

DESCRIPTION:Iain helps people find their pride through Yoga. Join these sessions for mindful movement\, meditation and breathwork to feel empowered.\n\n\nCome along to this accsessible yoga session facilitated by Iain (@proud.yoga on Instagram). As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community\, Iain champions making yoga accessible for absolutely everybody. \n \nThe session will combine mindful movement\, meditation and breathwork. The sessions are open and suitable for absolutely anyone\, including those who may have limited mobility. \n \nMore about the Session Facilitator: \nIain (he/him) is a Yoga teacher who lives in Leeds with his boyfriend and their cat\, Lulu (a rescue who is somewhat wild and will most likely make an appearance during a class). Outside of Yoga\, Iain is a massive comic book nerd\, coffee lover and Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. \n \nFAQ’s: \nCan I come to this session if I’ve not been before? \n \nIs this session accessible to wheelchair users? \nYes. The movement in this session will be seated with gentle movement and stretching\, with lots of breathing and meditation practice. Some elements may require a certain level of mobility\, for example raising the hands over the head\, but this can always be modified to suit your needs and certainly isn’t a must-have to enjoy the sessions. If you want to ask any questions about accessibility\, drop us an email at lgbtqcc@gmail.com.
